I am currently reading the book Beginning PHP and MySQL Ecommerce: novice to professional. I am pretty much following the book exactly. It uses smarty to separate out the php coding from the html. but there are so many articles on the web discouraging the use of smarty, saying it slows the system down. If I don't use smarty, then there has to be something besides this book, that I have to learn in order to make this work. How do you feel about using smarty is it a good idea?Can someone give me a list of things that a person would need to know in replacement for the functions of smarty?
