My current host will not allow websocket use, and I as they don't provide any VPS's, I am now in the market.
Can I put a socket listening script on a VPS? I am assuming I would be able to use whatever programming language I liked (PHP, Perl, Ruby, Python, C++, ect.).
Would a VPS give me access to multiple sockets if needed?
Is there any limit on the number of concurrent connections to a socket?
Is there any limit on the number of processes (threads) I can run at one time on a VPS?
I would be doing a fair amount of testing for the next several months. Can I accomplish setting up a website and a websocket server, for pre-production testing, using the "Level 1" VPS Plan or do I need to go with one of the cPanel enable plans right away?
Also, as side thought, do any of your shared hosting plans support the use of websockets? Would be just for per-production testing, to try and save some money, up front.
