Good Backup Solutions

I know there's a lot on here about this but some what out dated and confusing.

I have a decent size site php site.

Right now I have an alert on my phone to backup my site manually once a week. Works but a monkey on my back.

I'd like to have my database emailed to me once a night. I realize it's probably to big so I was thinking have it saved in a directory then use an automated ftp client like cuteftp to download it to my local server here at the office.

I guess I could do that to with my actual php files to?

What you guys doing?
